It’s turned into a tragically familiar narrative: a priest is charged with molesting a kid.  He fesses up to it.  Instead of going to the police and having him arresting, the church merely transfers him to another ministry.  This was the situation with Stephen Edward Jeselnick, a priest named in the alarming Pennsylvania grand jury report that uncovered more than 300 abusers.


Based on the report, Jeselnick was doing work in Pennsylvania in the late 1970's when he allegedly sexually assaulted 3 siblings. The 3 victims, now fully grown men, have testified that the exploitation involved repeated occurrences both within the church building and even took place at their own home. He was subsequently moved to Colorado and worked there in the early 80s just before becoming an Air Force chaplain. In his time in Colorado, the diocese claims they under no circumstances received any complaint against him for abuse.

The grand jury report discloses that in 2014, Jeselnick sought a letter of recommendation from the bishop of Eerie, Pennsylvania. After doing some due diligence and research, the Bishop refused the request.


The three brothers came forward with their story 2017, many years after the sickening event. Regrettably, the state has some draconian statute of limitations on the books, making it impossible prosecute Jeselnick. He is presently enjoying his retirement from the air force and residing in Colorado.


This kind of tale unveils the nationwide implications of the Pennsylvania report: Several priests identified in it have served (and perhaps harmed minors) in several other states.
